How to Pack Your Suitcase Correctly When You Travel

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

(1) Lie books and other reading essentials, such as magazines and ipads, ipods and iphones along the bottom of the case, taking care to protect any screens or glass covers.

(2) Place your loafers, shoes and flip flops at either end of the case, with the soles facing outwards. Put your socks inside the shoes.

(3) Make two piles of folded clothes side by side, and place the sponge bag in-between the two.

(4) Place soft things above and below the sponge bag so its never directly against the case.

(5) Use your t shirts and pants to fill up all the gaps between the various piles of clothing and the edge of the bag.

The Rules of Smart Casual When Travelling Abroad

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

(1) Make sure that your watch and shoes subtly reveal that you are a man of taste and means.

(2) Black shoes, watch straps and belts are too formal for a successful smart casual look – go for brown leather accessories instead.

(3) Its better to be the only man in the room in a tie than the only man in the room without one. Knitted silk is perfect for smart casual.

(4) Summer scarves aren’t just fashionable; they’re also a useful way to inject some colour and interest into an outfit.

(5) Bright colours and light coloured jackets only work under the summer sun.

(6) It takes thought to wear a blazer in a modern way. Keep the outfit contemporary, perhaps with short trousers.

(7) Going sockless adds Continental panache to smart casual, but its best if your ankles are tanned.

(8) Suits need to fit without being tight.

(9) The emphasis in smart casual should be on the smart – adopt the kind of grooming routine you’d observe for a business meeting.

(10) Smart casual blazers and suits need to fit just as well as your business suits.

Fashion Advice for Men – What Tie Do I Wear with My Gingham Shirt?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

We were asked recently what kind of tie should someone wear with a pale blue gingham shirt. Our answer was that it is best to work up from a solid colour base. Ties we love at the moment include the flat poplin ones that are sold at American Apparel and which have the added advantage of also being ludicrously, crazily good value for money. They are also blessed with a wonderfully curious matt effect because their colour is so bold whilst the tie itself seems almost 2D. We wear them sometimes in dark turquoise and grey and they are genuine trigger pieces – people ask you where you bought them all the time.

For other colours, think about the pattern on the tie as opposed to layering another stripe over the gingham. When there is a chance to fulfil a rite of passage, grab it – a patterned tie from Hermes is one of those unshakeable symbols of achievement. Their current patterns include rabbits chased by a hound and running elephants.

A loft bunk bed is generally made up of two beds of at least twin size. Instead of being parallel to each other, the bottom bunk is perpendicular to the top and not attached to the loft structure. Unlike traditional bunk beds, the bottom section of these beds can be removed and placed somewhere else in the room with no hassle. The mobility of this bottom bunk is especially convenient as children get older and need their own space. Since they are so simple to separate, it is very easy to move the bottom bed into another spot, or even into a completely different room.
